Deborah Brown English

Deborah Brown English is a professional artist and writer living in Baltimore. She studied English, Comparative Literature and Creative Writing at Southern Methodist University and majored in painting at the Maryland Institute College of Art (MICA). Her first book, Time’s Breath, was published in September 2025, and an exhibition of the same name will open at the Creative Alliance in Baltimore on March 4, 2026.

A story told in words and pictures,Time’s Breath examines our shared histories and legacies. It tells the story of an island in the North Atlantic and the mythical beings and people who live there—including Thomas, a young and philosophical English sailor, who is rescued after a shipwreck, and Ismitta, the woman with whom he falls in love.
